| Love of reading |
I loved to read from the moment I learned how. I was 4 years old when my Sunday School teacher asked my mom if she knew that I could read. My mom didn't believe her so she had me read a book for her.
From that time on, I read EVERYTHING. My mom would take me to the library and I would fill a paper grocery sack full of books and then go home and read right through them in a day or so. I devoured books. I read all the Nancy Drews and Hardy Boys. I read all of Roald Dahl's books and as I got older, all of Judy Blume's. And on, and on. By the time I was 10 or 11, the library of books that I owned was pretty big. I discovered the Sweet Valley High series and read them all. I soon graduated to VC Andrews and then Stephen King.
After I had Brianna, I hoped that she would love to read as much as me. It seemed she was going to. She liked to read up until about the 3rd grade and then she pretty much lost interest. She has since rediscovered her love for reading and probably reads more than I do.
Now, Braelyn can read. She has discovered chapter books and the Junie B Jones series. She is reading like crazy! I am loving every minute of it. Especially when she said, "Mommy, these books have lots of words that I have to sound out. And, there's not many pictures, but I can see it all in my head."
Be still my heart.Labels: books, braelyn, brianna, nablopomo07, reading |

| Starting the day with a heart attack! |
I went to bed last night knowing that Bubba had to work today. I heard his alarm go off early this morning and I vaguely remember him getting out of bed. But I didn't hear the kids up so I stayed in bed.
Later, I woke up to Jameson sniffling like he was crying. I looked at the clock and it said 8:30. I asked him what was wrong and he said, "I miss Daddy and Baywin. They're not here." I told him that Daddy was at work and that Braelyn was here. She was just probably on the floor beside our bed.
I got up and looked beside our bed. She Braelyn wasn't there. I pulled all the covers off my bed and then off her bed. No Braelyn. I looked on Jameson's bed, I looked on the floor in their room.I looked in the living room, behind furniture. No Braelyn. She wasn't in the bathroom, the laundry room or in Bubba's area where he has a tv. I had sent Jameson upstairs to check Brianna's room and he had said she wasn't there.
At this point I was in panic mode! I was hollering for her and no answer. I went up to Brianna's room where she was sleeping and asked her if Braelyn was there. She wasn't. I was freaking out and said, "Braelyn is gone!" I ran to the living room and grabbed the phone and started to call Bubba, but I kept starting to dial our home number. I just kept thinking, 'Where could she possibly be?!'
I was walking toward the back door again, when it opened and in walked Braelyn!! With Bubba!!
Oh my heck! I had not ever been more scared..or more relieved at that time. I thought Bubba was already at work but he didn't have to be there until later so he and Braelyn went to get donuts.
Needless to say, Bubba will leave me a note next time.Labels: braelyn |

| What is this, "make the bed" of which you speak?? |
Back in February, after the "New Carpet of 2007", the kids got new bunk beds. And when I say kids, I mean the two youngest because Brianna no longer counts. (kidding) Anyway, ever since then, they've just used mismatched sheets and pillow cases and whatever blanket they attached themselves to for that day. Finally, we got them proper bedding and I think I am more excited about it than they are. K-mart (yes, we still shop there, especially when they have good stuff in their ad--so shut it) had kids' character bedding on sale a couple of weeks ago. Now, I usually balk at character stuff because it gets old really fast, but I made an exception because, well, CHEAP! And K-mart still has LAYAWAY. (Wal-mart and I STILL have issues since they got rid of layaway. We're currently in group counselling for that..but, you know, whole other post. No layaway is also the reason why Target and I have never formed a lasting relationship.)
Bubba took the kids to pick out said bedding. Braelyn ended up with "That's So Raven" which is actually VERY pretty and doesn't have a gigantic head-shot of Raven Simone splashed across the comforter. Jameson, being the total boy that he is, got Batman.
Because I know you are dying to see them, here you go.

Now, here is where the story gets good because it will give you and insight into my/our parenting skills and my domestic abilities.
I got home yesterday and the kids are super excited because Daddy put their new sheets and stuff on their beds. I told them that now, they'd have to make their beds every day since they have such nice sheets and comforters. Then Braelyn says to me with an extreme look of puzzlement on her face...
"Make our beds? Make? What does that mean?"
Awesome. We ROCK at teaching domestic chores!
In my defense, I never had to make my bed. Is that a valid defense? My mom was the housework General when it came to everything else, but we never had to make our beds. We just shut our bedroom door. :) When Bubba and I first got married, in our first house and then our apartment, we made our bed sometimes, but now, we NEVER make our bed. If you walk past our bedroom, you can't see our bed anyway, so if we can live with the mess, why bother?
Go ahead, comment away. I KNOW that most of you have perfect homes with perfectly made beds every day. Make fun of me at will.Labels: braelyn, jameson, new bedding |

Boy got MAD culinary skills skillz |

Bubba rocks, no? This is the cake he made for the big "CUBEGATING" party at work. It is Colts KA-RAZEE at work and all over Indiana right now. We've had spirit week at work...hat day, boot day (to stomp out those Bears. cheesy? Why yes it was...)etc... Tomorrow is Blue Day...AKA wear-as-much-blue-as-you-can-without-getting-fired-day. I'll be donning my brand spankin' new Colts shirt. You know you are jealous.
My poor Braelyn is sick. I got home from work and she was burning with fever. She'd been lying down sleeping since she got home from school. I gave her meds and a shower and then she threw up all over the floor in the living room. She was so ready for bed and just a short time ago woke up puking again. Needless to say, she won't be going to school tomorrow.
Watched most of Open Season earlier and I must say that Gary Sinise rocks that movie as the crazy hunter! (I could be a little biased since he is my favorite actor EVAH!) The whole movie is really funny. I highly recommend it to the two of you who haven't seen it yet. I am always months late at seeing movies.

I forgot that I was supposed to fill you in on my nerdy mom-ish-ness. There are visual aids that go along with that so that will have to wait until tomorrow because I don't feel like taking photos right now.
Nighty night, y'all!Labels: braelyn, bubba, cake, colts, gary sinise, open season |
