Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbor's Blog (or blog envy)
Is that an official commandment?

Surfing all the blogs on Blog Explosion, I see all the snazzy skins and layouts and it makes me jealous. Positively GREEN with envy. I look at my little simple blogger blog and think, "Oh the things I could do." But then, you know what? I think about myself and how positively computer illiterate I am, and I am happy and content with the relative simplicity of this pink wonderland. I'll keep it. For now.

When I really think about those snazzy blogs, the design may have caught my attention, but the actual content and writing is what kept me and made me a fan. Hopefully, I can get to that point someday---have people who are waiting to hear what I have to say next. (B-ump and GG, you don't count!!)

While I am on the subject of BE...does anyone else out there have, oh, I don't know, 3,000 blogs in their blogmarks? There are a hell of a lot of great blogs out there that interest me and/or make me laugh 'til I am running to the bathroom. I will never have enough time to keep up with them all. I will try.

One more thing about BE, 25 do not views are NOT ENOUGH!!

Time to surf some more. My butt is numb.

Hey there Angie, First thanks for the comment on BLog Explosion about my site, I have been working on it since the beginning of Oct. Originally I was on blogger but then had major blog envy and bought my own domain name and had my blog hosted at BlogsAbout. I step by step tried to learn how to make changes to the template. I'll tell you a secret I created a second blog on blogger and made changes to the template little by little to learn how to add and delete things, pictures, links, buttons, new template from blogskins.com Took me about a month to get it and am still learning now that my blog is powered by WordPress. I love all things 80's and like you would go back in a minute!! have you blogmarked and am adding you to my blog list at my site.

I am initially attracted to good blog design, but like you, it's the content and the regularity of posts that keep me coming back. I must admit though, it takes a really good 'template' blog for me to actually bookmark it, but I understand the ease of publishing.

I know what you mean about the design. I know just a tiny bit of html and it's not enough to really do those snazzy pages. CSS sheets? HAH! Maybe one day.....

I share the pink blogger skin with you as well. LOL. Maybe one day we'll both graduate out of it. I enjoyed reading your blog and will plan on coming back soon!

To me, content is more than words, and it's more than fancy layouts or skins -- it's the kind of content that makes me return to a site over and over. I can't really explain what "good" content is -- I just know when I've found a site that has it.

I too suffered from neat-o blog design envy, and bailed from Blogger (not just because of the Very Repetitive Designs, but more importantly due to the constant struggles with down-time and commenting problems). I believed that in my new world of using WordPress, my only design limit would be my imagination! Hah. My design limit is my techno-uselessness, as I barely know html from asap. Only after I made the switch to WP did I discover that there are TONS of neat skins available at blogskins.com and other places. Skins/designs for WordPress are few and far between. If you plan to stay at Blogger, check out blogskins and search for others. Plus, I've noticed that if you want to hire professionals to design a custom look for you, prices for Blogger designs tend to be $10-$20 less than designs for other blog systems. In the meantime, if you want to feel better about the look of your blog, come visit me at my super duper blah WordPress default design. You'll be cheerfully whistling in no time at all.
